Two-year Fine Arts Diploma transfer pathway

  • Transfer directly into third year of ACAD's Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Design degree programs when you achieve an average of C (2.0) or higher. Admission is based on academic standing. A portfolio review is required for admission to ACAD's Bachelor of Design.
  • Expand your creative potential and art making skills in the supportive environment of NIC's well-equipped fine arts studio before continuing your studies in media arts, sculpture, fibre, painting, drawing, ceramics, print media, photography, visual communications and more.
  • Learn to apply analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to challenge yourself as a dynamic member of the knowledge-based, creative and cultural economy.

Career possibilities: As a graduate, you will be well-prepared for employment as an artist, gallery assistant, teaching assistant, community arts programmer and community arts educator. You will have the skills to pursue an arts based career in painting, sculpture, photography, print media, interdisciplinary practice, media arts and more.

Which ACAD Programs are Eligible?

The NIC-ACAD Articulation Agreement provides NIC students with the opportunity to transfer directly into Year 3 of the following Alberta College of Art + Design programs:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts
    Majors include media arts, sculpture, fibre, painting, drawing, ceramics, print media, glass and jewellery + metals.
  • Bachelor of Design
    Majors include photography and visual communication design.

Make sure your courses count. Each degree pathway has its own unique deadlines, portfolio requirements, course prerequisites and transfer requirements.

Admission requirements for North Island College’s Fine Arts diploma are available on the program page.

Graduates of NIC’s Fine Arts Diploma with an average of C (2.0) or higher will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the ACAD Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program majors on the basis of academic standing, and will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the ACAD Bachelor of Design degree program on the basis of academic standing and a portfolio review. Both are subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the articulation agreement between Alberta College of Art & Design and North Island College’s Fine Arts program.
